Concept Chip Cookies: Violence

For a class presentation comparing legal and medical narratives of chronic violent behavior, I made chalk outline gingerbread men. But to represent the antisocial (psychopathic) aspect of these behaviors, I exercised a little bit of sadism by making these about three times spicier than traditional gingerbread men. However, a few people in the class thought the spice level was great (masochists!)

Ingredients:

  • 1 stick butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups pastry flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 TB ground ginger
  • 1 1/2 TB ground cinnamon
  • 2 tsp white pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cups honey
  • 1 TB fresh ginger
  • 2 TB sriracha

Preparation:

Use an electric mixer to combine butter, fresh minced ginger, sriracha, honey and sugar. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, all of the dry seasonings and baking soda/powders, then blend into the wet mixture. Knead the dough together with your fingers to make it come into a dough. Roll out, cut out cookies as desired. Bake at 350 for 10 minutes. Ice in white along the edge to bring a whole level of creepy to these spicy sweet treats.
